FAQs

What are the differences between the Elite and Bilingual International programs? Can the class schedules be shared?

The key difference between BIA (Bilingual International Academy) and TEM (Top Mandarin Elite) lies in program orientation and language focus:

  • Language:
BIA treats both English and Mandarin as formal teaching languages, nurturing bilingual ability from early years. By Grade 5, students can fluently use both languages. TEM, however, is centered on Mandarin with a curriculum fully aligned to Taiwan’s Ministry of Education standards. English is taught through advanced ESL materials, more challenging than typical Taiwan textbooks.

  • Curriculum:
BIA delivers Math in both English and Mandarin, supported by the IXL platform, and adopts 21st-century experiential learning methods such as PBL, HIP, and STEAM. TEM emphasizes core academic foundations—Mandarin, Math, Science, and Social Studies—directly aligned with Taiwan’s national curriculum.

  • Teachers & Materials:
BIA gradually builds a team of bilingual and international teachers. TEM employs certified Taiwanese teachers using MOE-approved textbooks.

  • Pathways:
In high school, BIA students can choose between Taiwan’s curriculum or an American pathway, ideal for families planning international studies. TEM follows a consistent Taiwan-based pathway, focusing on strong academic foundations and local advancement.

In short, BIA is best for families seeking bilingual fluency, international exposure, and flexible future pathways, while TEM is ideal for families who prioritize strong Mandarin-based academics with enhanced English proficiency.

When is tuition due? Is there an early bird discount?

A 5% discount applies if the deposit is paid before May 12.

What if the English class is too fast and we need private tutoring?

We understand that some students may need more time to adjust to the pace of English classes. We encourage parents to first speak with the subject teacher, who can provide differentiated support and extra practice as needed. The school also offers after-school support and learning resources to help students catch up. If parents still wish to arrange a private tutor, we are happy to suggest learning directions so that tutoring aligns with our in-school teaching.

Will classes be too small if further divided?

  • Advantages of small classes: Teachers can better monitor each student’s progress and provide more targeted guidance and differentiated instruction, which is especially helpful for students who need extra support.

  • More interaction: Even with fewer students, teacher-student interaction is more frequent, and student participation is often higher.

  • Learning environment: Smaller classes create a sense of safety and belonging, encouraging students to ask questions and share ideas.

Therefore, small class sizes do not reduce learning outcomes; instead, they often enhance efficiency and the quality of individualized attention.

Vietnamese Language Course – Related

1. How is the Vietnamese class arranged?

Ans: The Vietnamese language course follows the Vietnamese government’s guidelines. Students without a Vietnamese passport may choose it as an elective free of charge. However, after-school enrichment or talent classes require a fee.

2. Didn’t the school say that Chinese, English, and Vietnamese would be learned simultaneously? Why has Vietnamese been moved to an after-school class?

Ans: Many parents choose our school primarily for Chinese and English learning, and thus the bilingual curriculum already occupies the core timetable. However, Vietnamese language courses are still arranged by the school, though in a different format. Please be assured that our commitment to a trilingual curriculum remains unchanged. Considering the allocation of instructional hours and learning objectives, Vietnamese language classes will be scheduled after school, ensuring that core academic subjects are not affected.

According to regulations, students holding a Vietnamese passport may enroll in Vietnamese courses free of charge. Students without a Vietnamese passport may also choose to enroll; however, if they participate through the after-school talent program, a tuition fee will be required.

Why is there such a big difference in tuition fees when the courses are not very different?

Q1: I have paid for BIA, but my child has to attend classes together with TEM students?
A1: Due to enrollment numbers, Mandarin and Chinese Math are scheduled together. However, English Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English courses are clearly differentiated and designed as separate classes. The tuition fees correspond to these distinct courses. Additionally, we adopt mixed-group classes to provide students with a diverse learning environment, rather than reducing course quality.

Q2: My child is taking classes together with TEM students. Will their English proficiency decline?
A2 : No. Language skills develop continuously in a multilingual environment. Progress is not determined solely by full-English instruction but also by consistent practice and support at home. Language learning requires long-term effort and engagement.

Q3: In a mixed-class setting, is it possible to truly distinguish students’ primary language?
A3: The mixed-class model is intentional, designed to give children exposure to multiple languages. With grouping and differentiated instruction, we ensure that all students have opportunities to practice. This immersive environment strengthens native language foundations while accelerating foreign language acquisition.

What is the school schedule?

Our classes start at 7:30 am and run until 3:50 pm, Monday to Friday.
If students participate in the after-school classes, the classes will finish at 5:20 pm.

Does the school have a shuttle bus? How about the cost?

Yes, our school has a shuttle bus. The cost of this service will be based on the address provided by the parent.

If my child is falling behind academically, what measures does the school take to help them improve?

The school first provides differentiated instruction, reinforcement programs, and after-school support to help students improve, rather than immediately reassigning their class. We continuously monitor each student’s progress, and if necessary, further steps will be discussed with parents. Our reinforcement programs focus on students’ weaker areas—such as language skills, math calculations, English foundations, reading and writing, Chinese basics, and oral expression—offering targeted training to help students gradually catch up.

Teachers and principals often change — is the school stable?

Teachers are under contract, and most departures are due to personal reasons. We are continually strengthening our faculty.

Is it acceptable to have many Filipino teachers for English?

Filipino teachers are English-proficient and experienced in international schools. Many also share Chinese cultural values, serving as a cultural bridge.

What kind of teacher will be assigned as homeroom teacher in the future?

Teachers who can communicate well with both students and parents will be prioritized.

If we reserved a spot in TEM but want to switch programs, how is tuition handled?

Submit a 20 million VND deposit and complete assessments by May 19. Results and eligibility for a 5% discount will be announced on May 30.

Are there sibling registration discounts?

Yes. The second child receives a 50% discount on the registration fee.

Are the graduation certificates different for TEM and BIA?

The certificate is the same.
